Classic Friend

Welcome to my blog!  Today's card was made just for fun and covers a few of the current challenges.  I made it specifically to send to a blogging friend.  Most of the time the cards I make never get sent :( but this one was made with someone in mind.  It will be sent on its way across the ocean tomorrow.

So I used the colors at Color Throwdown, as well as the sketch at MFT.  I'm also linking to the Anything Goes challenge at Simon Says Stamp, who happen to be featuring Ranger products and I have used Distress Inks on my card.

I white embossed the Geometric Grid background stamp onto some water color paper and dropped on some Peacock Feathers and Twisted Citron ink.  After heat-setting it, I went back over a few spots, dropping more ink on.  Finally I splattered some Peacock Feathers ink onto the panel.  Once it was dry, I cut it down into two panels to mimic the sketch and put it aside.

The bottle was die-cut from watercolor paper and painted with Twisted Citron ink.  At the time, I wasn't thinking about its placement on the card and in hindsight, I should have put the angle going the other way, but we'll blame the gravity in the Southern Hemisphere for the weird look :)  For that reason, and as a bit of fun, I'm linking this to Darnell's boo-boo blog hop.  It's not a major boo-boo but still a bit funny.  As an aside, apparently toilets flush the opposite direction in the Southern Hemisphere.  I have no idea if that is true, but I remember many years ago having a Skype conversation with a friend in New Hampshire about this very subject.  From memory, I don't think we came to a conclusion.

Back to the card.  The label was made from a piece of watercolor paper that I smeared Peacock Feathers ink onto.  Once it was dry, I white embossed the image.  The bottle cap is cut from a tiny sliver of the Dazzling Diamonds glitter paper by SU - a gorgeous white glittery paper.  I painted the "liquid" in the bottle with clear Wink of Stella and added some rainstones to look like bubbles at the top.  And yes I know the bottle is still capped, but I've taken some artistic licence :)

Thanks for visiting!

  3. I couldn't find anything wrong with this card, that is, until you pointed it out. Probably only a few people would have noticed if you hadn't told them.

  5. LOL, I thought that the post was actually an April Fool's joke, because I didn't realise it until you pointed it out (I'm so unobservant!) . . . the design is great and I'm sure won't be noticed by the recipient as we are all, without doubt, our own worse critics! Good job we can laugh at ourselves though eh? have a great weekend! Hazel xx

  6. Mmmm, I don't know, Karren, I must be from a different hemisphere up inside my head because I'm cocking my head and I'm actually liking the way you have your bottle tilted. I think it moves nicely that way with the angle of the green in your pretty geometric pattern. Now the bubbles coming out of the capped lid ~ THAT made me laugh!! That's just the kind of "wait, that can't be right" boo boo I would do!! Sorry I didn't make it here yesterday. Mid-morning I got the Blue Screen of Death on my computer. I was hoping was an April Fool's joke, but no, it wasn't and it took all day to get it up and running. Thank you so much for being a good sport and playing in my first BFCBB Hop!! Enjoy the weekend!! Hugs, Darnell

  13. It's just a 23rd century bottle where water now runs uphill right? Ignoring the funny, it's a brilliant card. Cara x

  15. Isn't there a hill in Scotland where water is supposed to run uphill? That is obviously a bottle of water from their local spring!
Stunning card, I love the colours and the uphill water.

  21. It took me about 100 looks to figure out what was wrong with the tilt of the bottle. Super-observant-kudos to those who saw it right off! And I too have heard that thing about how the water flows in the southern hemisphere but I have no idea if it's true. The story I've heard is that water flows down drains counter-clockwise in the southern hemisphere. Perhaps an experiment is in order!
