Newton's Coffee

Hi!  It's a long weekend here in New Zealand and I took advantage of that to add another day on either end.  So on this cold Friday, I'm snug in my craft room having fun 😄

I wanted to play along at least once with the Spring/Summer Coffee Lovers Bloghop so I combined that challenge with the gorgeous colors at Time Out and the sketch at Newton Nook to come up with this card.

I colored up this adorable image of Newton and die-cut him with the co-ordinating die, before putting him to one side to focus on the rest of the card.  Onto a white card base, I stamped the sentiment and the image of coffee beans in Versafine Onyx Black ink.  I then layered up some Black & White striped paper, a Ripe Raspberry gingham stitched fishtail flag and a Sour Apple stitched fishtail flag.  Around that I tied some black and white baker's twine - man, it's been an age since I used baker's twine!

I framed Newton with a stitched circle die cut from Ripe Raspberry cardstock and popped it up on foam tape.

I love these bright, fresh colors - so nice for us down under who are heading into winter.

Always a Good Idea

Welcome to another fabulous sketch from the Freshly Made Sketches team!  This week our hostess is one of our very capable and talented Camp Mothers - Jen Mitchell.

I decided to make a card with a coffee theme and link it up to the Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop.  As well, the colors work well with the Autumn colors theme at AAA Cards.

Autumn puts me in mind of rain, so I pulled out the adorable Rainy Day set by Newton's Nook and did some Copic coloring and paper piecing.  To further add to the autumn theme, I added a pumpking from the Fall Fox set by SugarPea Designs and a coffee cup from the Newton Loves Coffee set.  The patterned paper comes from CTMH and the ombre paper in the background has a nice, warm feel to it.  I added a bit of gray shading to the paper-pieced umbrella and called the card done!

Coffee and Hexagons

Hi and welcome!  It's Freshly Made Sketch Challenge day and this week our hostess is the lovely Amy O'Neill.  Amy's sketch is fabulous - perfect for creating a focal point in that big centre panel.

I wanted to play along with the Coffee Lovers Bloghop again before it closes so came up with a summery-colored coffee card.  I was inspired by the colors and the hexagon shape at the Pinsights Challenge.

On the centre panel, I blended distress inks onto a panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock before die-cutting it with a stitched die.  I did have to do some partial die-cutting to get the panel deep enough but that was easy enough to do.  Once that was done, I took some black embossing paste and a hexagon stencil and stenciled over the panel.  I love the contrast of the bright colors with the black shapes and sentiment.  The cup was colored with Copics and die-cut and the sentiment was stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.

I used a black stitched frame and then a Limelight strip to add even more bright color!

Caffeinated Mermaid

Hi and welcome!  So the other day I had a post featuring a caffeinated chicken.  Well, today I have a caffeinated mermaid and this time I am on time for the Coffee Lovers' Bloghop (I was a day early with my chicken card - darned time zones)!  I used the sketch from MFT Stamps and the colors from Color Throwdown for my card.  I'm also going to link up to the Make Your Mark challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More and wish them a happy 5th birthday!

I'll start by saying that I wasn't going to get this Mermazing set, but then every release I tell myself I'm not going to get the Birdie Brown sets and my resolve lasts maybe a month and then they're in my cart and on their way to my house!  I paired up this adorable mermaid with an iced coffee from Essentials by Ellen set.  I thought this particular mermaid looks like she might be bending over a big cup of caffeine so that's how I built my card.

The background is sponged through an oval mask directly onto the Tropical Teal card base.  The frame is a panel sponged with Peacock Feathers and Cracked Pistachio then spritzed with a Perfect Pearls mist.  I had to do some fairly major surgery on the sentiment to get it to fit.  I cut off the word "love" and added a die-cut word "coffee" cut from black cardstock.  I also had to cut off the "Sending You" and stamp that separately so I could centre it properly.

The mermaid and coffee are popped up on foam tape and I finished with some clear droplets to represent bubbles.  The coffee, straw, mermaid tail, top and the starfish are all painted with clear sparkle pen for some shimmer.

Floral Heart

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketch Challenge Day!  This week our hostess is the talented Kim Singdahlsen and she has a fabulous sketch for us:

Now, first things first.  I got the sketch backwards and put my circular element on the right hand side instead of the left.  Doh!  No excuse!

I decided to play along in the Spring Coffee Lovers Blog Hop and used this cute coffee bean heart by SugarPea Designs.  To bring in the Spring theme, I added some flowers and stenciling in Spring-like colors.

The stenciling was done using white embossing paste and two colors of ink - Lemon Zing and Blue Violet.  The flowers were stamped using Altenew inks and then die-cut.  The sentiment comes from a Verve set.

Basket of Beans

Hi!  I'm finally getting around to posting my card for the Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop!  I made this card earlier in the week and actually used the sketch from MFT but, of course, that challenge is closed now.  Anyway, here is my card:

I used the adorable Harvest Mouse set and masked off the top of the basket so I could add some coffee beans.  I also used masking for the pumpkins.

The images were colored with Copics and the sentiment is white embossed onto Dark Chocolate cardstock.  The kraft card base was stamped with Burlap Background, using Khaki ink.

But First...

Hi!  I'm back for the second time today with my card for the Coffee Lovers Blog Hop, which has a summer theme.  My card also meets the themes at Curtain Call and City Crafter, so I'm linking up there too.  Inkspirational has a masking theme and as I did two different types of masking on this card, I'm adding my card.

This is a one layer card and involved masking off a strip on a white card base before sponging Antique Linen ink for the sand and Tumbled Glass ink for both the sea and the horizon, using a much lighter touch for the sky.  I also used a cloud mask for the sky.  Once I was finished sponging, I used a white gel pen for the waves and a Copic marker to add texture to the sand.

Once I was happy with the image, I removed the mask and stamped the sentiment in black ink.

A very simple card but I hope it evokes a feeling of peace while drinking coffee on a warm morning with a view like this :)

Rule the World

Hi!  Today's card uses the sketch at CAS(E) This Sketch and made for the Coffee Lovers Blog Hop.  I'm not sure that it's very Spring-like, but I'll use the excuse that it's coming into autumn where I live, so it's hard to feel Spring-y ;)

I'm really not sure about this card, but I'm putting it out there anyway.  I stamped the images using Verve sets Better With You and Coffee.  I stamped the coffee cups onto Desert Storm cardstock as well as white and paper-pieced them together.  The pink polka dots are my nod to Spring and were stamped using one of the images from Geometric Style onto a scrap and then I over-stamped with the coffee cup and cut out the band.  The two bands are liberally painted with clear Wink of Stella.

Toy Dog

Hi!  I'm sneaking in with only a few hours to go on the current Winter/Holiday Coffee Lovers' Blog Hop.  I'm also linking up to CASology, where the theme is "Toy".  I chose to use a "toy dog" for my card :)

I actually made this coffee cup/dog combo last weekend, but couldn't get it looking good on a card.  I put it to one side and now I'm now to the last six hours of the Coffee Lovers' Challenge, I just had to make it work somehow!  I'm not in love with this card, but it'll do.

The wee dog, who looks a lot like our wee toy dog, was stamped, colored and die-cut.  The coffee cup is a MFT die and I sponged the edges to give some dimension.  I also stamped the "Merry Christmas" sentiment across the band using Soft Stone ink for a tone-on-tone look.

Chevron Coffee

Hi, I'm joining in with the Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop today, as well as the ColourQ challenge and The Paper Players sketch challenge.

When I first saw Claire's sketch, I had zero ideas, but then it slowly came together into this card - not sure that it 100% meets the sketch, but I think you can see the sketch :)

I started with a Slate card base and down the left hand side I stamped the script image and a leaf image from French Foliage - one of my favorite SU sets.  I then die cut a frame from Smoke cardstock and again stamped the script image down the left hand side.

The chevron and the band on the coffee cup are white panels sponged with distress ink then spritzed with water.  After die-cutting the coffee cup, I sponged the sides to give the impression of roundness.  A stacked die-cut sentiment and my card was finished.
