Sleigh Ride

Hi and welcome to Merry Monday!  Today's challenge comes to us from Nina, who has challenged us to create a vintage-style Christmas card.

I'm not 100% happy with my card - it's been a while since I made a vintage card and it took a long time to come up with something vintage-y.

I decided to channel Nina, our challenge hostess, and use patterned paper for my card.  All three panels on this card come from my Secret Santa gift from Sue, my fellow Merry Monday team member.  Thanks, Sue!

I stamped the sleigh using Archival Black ink and sponged and distressed the edges.  I did the same with the other two panels but didn't distress the sentiment panel.  Instead I popped that up on dimensional tape. 

I finished off the card with a brown button and some twine.

Trio of Roses

Welcome to The Paper Players challenge, where this week Joanne has a fun color combo for us to try.

I wanted to try my new Misti with some multi-step stamping and chose to use my new Altenew Vintage Roses set.

I had to stretch the challenge just a tad, because my foam Strawberry Slush pad does not play nicely when second- and third-generation stamping, leaving a splotchy mess, so I had to choose a lighter and darker ink that were in the same tone to work with Strawberry Slush.  I hope this is okay with the rest of the team.

So, using my Misti, I stamped the roses in two different sizes using Cotton Candy, Strawberry Slush and Lipstick Red inks.  I then fussy cut each of the roses.  The leaves were stamped in Pistachio Pudding and the sentiment in Ranger Archival Black.

I die cut a thin frame from Coastal Cabana cardstock and inlaid it into the card base.

82 Years Young

I had fun in my craft room today and after last week's struggles, the two cards I made today came together in a way that I'm happy with.  The first card I made is for the next Freshly Made Sketch Challenge, but this card is for my Dad's 82nd birthday next week and uses the colors from ColourQ and the sketch from Mojo Monday.

I really, really like this card and I hope my Dad will too.  I went a bit Tim Holtz on this card using lots of stencils and lots of sponging.  I'll try and remember how I made the center panel...  

I started with a strip of white cardstock and sponged over the Crocodile stencil with Pumice Stone ink.  I then sponged in the following order:  Cargo with Wild Honey ink; Measured with Dusty Durango ink; Splatter with Dusty Durango ink; Shatter with Pumice Stone; Lattice Work with Pumice Stone and Numbered with Peacock Feathers.  Phew!  I then sponged around the edges with Vintage Photo before stamping over the whole piece with the text stamp from Papillon painted with Antique Linen Distress Paint.  After heat-setting that, it created a resist and I sponged on more Vintage Photo ink.

The card base was also stamped with the same stamp and Antique Linen Distress Paint.  Here's a close-up so you can see some of the layers of sponging and stenciling.

The circular panel was first die-cut then stamped with Archival Black ink using my Misti - perfect coverage and placement!  I sponged a strip of white cardstock with Peacock Feathers ink and cut a couple of pieces of Wild Honey and Dusty Durango cardtock.  Some thread finished off the card.

Happy Birthday

Hi and welcome to Freshly Made Sketches Day!  This week our hostess is the super-talented Jen Mitchell.  Jen has given us a sketch with a tilted panel - gulp!

I decided to make the tilted panel the feature and went to town with some distress inks to come up with this card.

After I watercolored the piece of watercolor paper, I stamped a large sentiment onto the panel then die-cut it with a postage stamp die.  The horizontal panel is vellum paper.  A few enamel dots and the card was finished!

Angel Christmas

Hi and welcome to Merry Monday.  Lori is our challenge hostess this week and her challenge is to add an angel or cherub onto our card.  

This was definitely a challenge for me as I don't own any angel or cherub stamps!  So I went shopping for a digi image that wasn't traditional and found one from Bugaboo that was pretty cute.

I printed the image along with an adorable sentiment from Hannelie onto X-Press It cardstock and colored it in.  Unfortunately, one of my brown markers splattered some ink and my colorless blender didn't entirely remove it, so let's just pretend that's not there, okay? :)

The card was very simply finished with a stitched die and some sequins.

Blueprint Card

Hi!  Today's challenge at The Paper Players comes from Jaydee and she is challenging us to use die-cuts on our cards.  Not a hard task, right?

My card is totally die-cut!  I just received my first set of Blueprints dies and decided to use one of the sketches provided to make my card.

I went with a navy, lime and aqua color scheme and used a stencil and some translucent embossing paste on the green panel.  The "thanks" die cut is from WPlus9 but the rest of the die cuts are from Blueprints 14 by My Favorite Things.

This was an easy card to put together and now I'm hooked on Blueprints dies and want all of them (of course!).

Lemon Chiffon

It's Freshly Made Sketches day and you know what that means!  A fabulous sketch and some wonderful inspiration!  This week, Jennifer Timko is our sketch artist and she has given us a very cool sketch.

I started with a Smoke card base and die-cut it with a stitched rectangle die.  I then cut a half circle with a stitched circle die out of Lemon Chiffon cardstock, which is such a soft and buttery color.   The sentiment is a new-to-me die and was cut from some black cardstock.  I also cut a Chloe stem die.  A selection of black and lemon sequins and some twine finished off the card.
