Birthday Wishes

Hi and welcome to Freshly Made Sketch Challenge Day.  A huge thanks to those of you who had a go with my sketch last week.  The gallery was beautiful and it made it hard to choose a winner!

This week, the lovely fussy-cut queen Narelle is our hostess and she has a wonderful sketch for us.

I loved this sketch as soon as I saw it - there's something about a long vertical panel that really appeals to me - not to mention the circle.  I love circle elements on cards.

I used the current challenge at Seize the Birthday for my card - to focus on the sentiment.  I also wanted to make a masculine card, hence the color scheme.

I started with a Fog cardbase and stamped the diagonal stripes from Basic Borders down the sides.  The patterned paper has some faint writing on it and comes from the Epic Day range from SU.  It was cut with a stitched rectangle die and popped up on foam tape.  The sentiment caused me fits!  Firstly I stamped it in black and struggled to get good coverage.  Once I got one that looked okay, I couldn't line up the circle die properly!  So I cut the circle first then tried stamping on it.  After about 4 tries, I finally got something that worked!  I am waiting on delivery of a MISTI and, believe me, I really needed it when I made this card :)

Instead of the banner, I strung some grey twine around the card and then used some foam tape to place the sentiment on top.  I colored the sentiment with my Wink of Stella.

Thanks for visiting.  Be sure to check out what the rest of the amazing design team have done with this sketch.

Cheers
Karren

This is perfect as a masculine card! I love the stripe down the sides (why don't I have that stamp) and despite your troubles the sentiment circle looks fantastic! I hope your friend MISTI arrives soon!

Well, I don't know what a MISTI is, but I think you've achieved an AWESOME result with this card, Karren! Love the colours, stamps and papers you've used. Very cool. :)

Oooooh I love this card Karren! I thought you'd used DSP for your side panels - haven't seen that cool stamp before. You really do ace man cards!

Great masculine card, Karren, and I love how you showed how to make a feminine card with basically the same design. One look, two great cards. I love how you used the twine, too!
