Inky Thanks

Hi and welcome!  I'm here with my card for the latest challenge at Fusion.  This time I played with the sketch and pulled in the colours from the photo to come up with this card.

I hot-foiled the sentiment onto a white panel and then went to work with lots of alcohol inks to create the panel at the bottom.  Once I was finished, it was a bit bold, so I covered it with vellum to tone it down a bit.  Some strips of embossed cardstock completed the sketch and I finished with some red and white baker's twine.

Here's a photo showing the alcohol-inked panel under the vellum.

Thanks for visiting.  I hope you'll check out the fabulous cards made by the rest of the design team.

I'm playing along with the Thankful theme at Time Out Challenges.

What's The Buzz

Hi and welcome to the newest sketch from the team at Freshly Made Sketches, where our hostess this week is Jennifer Timko.  Here is what I created using Jennifer's sketch.

When I first saw the sketch, I immediately saw a Christmas wreath, but I decided to go in another direction and use a NBUS set from The Greetery.  I stamped the images and die-cut them with the co-ordinating dies, then set them aside to work on the card base.

Firstly, I ink-blended Speckled Egg Distress Ink in the centre of the card base, fading it out towards the edges but trying to keep to a circular shape.  Once I was happy with the depth of colour and the size, I created a circle mask from printer paper and used the negative over the panel to avoid getting splatters where I didn't want them.  I splattered on Speckled Egg and Broken China inks then added some Amplify pigment ink because I couldn't find my Gouache.  I added some white gel pen dots to increase the white and set it aside to dry.

The sentiment was hot foiled using white opaque hot foil and die-cut with the co-ordinating die.  I then assembled the card, trying to keep as close to the sketch as I could.  The bee's wings were covered in clear sparkle pen and I called it done!

Thanks so much for visiting.  I hope you'll head over and check out the wonderful cards made by the rest of the design team.

Woodsy Hello

Hi!  It's a Public Holiday here in New Zealand today (Monday), so I had a chance to get into my craft room and make a card for a few challenges - something I don't get a chance to do often enough.

I was drawn to the inspiration photo at Just Us Girls and paired that with the sketch at The Paper Players and the Tic-Tac-Toe challenge where I went with Die-Cut...Twine...Trees/Woods.  I'm hoping that branches count as trees/woods?

I created a bouquet of branches using a die from Concord & 9th as well as the Botanicuts:  Pussy Willow dies where I coloured the white die-cuts with Copics.  I tied the bunch with some twine and set it aside to work on the rest of my card.  I wanted to keep with the neutral tones of the photo and bring in the woodgrain and foliage as well as a black heart.  Patterned paper matted onto black cardstock worked for  the sketch elements and a hot-foiled and die-cut sentiment was added with foam tape.

Thanks for visiting!

Products used:

Cardstock:  White, Black, Desert Storm, Wood & Notebook Basics (Snap)
Dies:  Botanicuts:  Pussy Willow (The Greetery), Layering Leaves (Concord & 9th), Fall Foliage Hot Foil Sentiments and dies (Honey Bee Stamps)
Accessories:  Twine, Copics, White Hot Foil, Enamel Heart

Snowflake Christmas

Hi and welcome to a new challenge from the Freshly Made Sketches team, where this week Jacquie Southas is our hostess.  Again, I took a few liberties with her sketch and came up with this card:

For some reason, when I sat down to make this card, I couldn't come up with anything for the squares - yet I love colour-blocked cards!  Go figure!  So I deviated slightly and added three elements in roughly the same spots as the squares and the sentiment where it is meant to go 😄

The snowflake dies and the sentiment are all stacked three deep for dimension and the snowflakes were spritzed with shimmer spray before being adhered to the card.  The background paper is from my hoarded Blurry Flurries pack.  The sentiment is silver hot-foiled and I finished with some pearls.

Thanks so much for visiting.  I hope you'll play along with the challenge and check out the fabulous cards made by the DT.

Floral Arch

Hi!  Today's card is for the latest Fusion challenge where I played along with the photo inspiration to come up with this card.

I had just received these items from The Greetery and they were perfect to try and recreate the floral spray around the window in the photo.  I tried to mimic the colours.  I blended some ink on a die-cut arch to fit in the centre before adding the sentiments and used foam tape to pop up the floral image.  I finished with some irridescent gems.

Thanks so much for visiting.  Please check out the fabulous cards made by the design team.

Snowy Christmas

Hi and welcome to a new sketch from the team at Freshly Made Sketches where this week our hostess is Judy Rozema.  I sort of deviated slightly from the sketch but here's my card:

I wanted to make this gorgeous patterned paper the star of the show so mounted a panel onto a white mat then onto a white card base.,

My original idea was to have an embossed vellum panel for the horizontal strip but it gave me fits - first cracking, then when I added double-sided adhesive paper behind it, it turned it opaque!  In frustration, I decided to use two simple glitter strips and make the sentiment the focus of the card.

Thanks for visiting.  Please head over to check out the wonderful cards made by the rest of the design team.

I'm linking this up to Sweet Stampin' Challenge who are looking for anything but a birthday card.

Products used:

Stamps:  Wonderful Christmas (Waffle Flower)
Ink:  Versamark
Cardstock:  White, Silver Glitterm, Winter's Sparkle patterned paper (Crafters Companion)
Accessories:  Sterling EP (Brutus Monroe), gems

Bubble Christmas

Hi!  It's time for a new challenge from the Freshly Made Sketches team and this week our hostess is Amy O'Neill.  I went for a non-traditional Christmas card using her sketch.

I started by colouring up the image using various Copics and then set about finding some matching cardstock to create my striped panel.  Once that was done I used a background stamp to stamp the card base and added the striped panel.

I used my Scan n Cut to cut out the central image and finished with a white-embossed sentiment and lots of clear sparkle pen.

Thanks so much for visiting.  I hope you'll check out the wonderful cards made by the design team.

Products used:

Stamps:  Big Bubble Poinsettia (Woodware), Snow Globe Sentiments, Christmas Background (MFT)
Ink:  Amalgam (Gina K), Fog (SSS)
Cardstock:  White, Black, X-Press It, Pink Lemonade, Caribbean Sea, Ripe Rapberry, Summer Splash (MFT)
